Meet the Bees

I love to show off my bees.

The bees … well, the bees stay in the box for the more public meetings. But in private, they’ll let us inside the nest for a closeup look.

If you do come out to one of my apiaries for a more intimate encounter, here are some things to keep in mind.

• My honey bees are gentle, but they are still bees. They will sting if they are pinched, stepped on, or otherwise overly provoked.
• Wear close-toed shoes and socks, long pants.
• Wear a light-colored shirt. Preferably long-sleeved, preferably of a material that is not fuzzy. An old dress shirt is a great choice.
• Bees are sensitive to smell, and they do not like fancy-pants perfumery or scented shampoos. If you can avoid using these products it is better.
